The camera captures an unusually intense moment. During the scene it comes for several seconds as the bear stammers and flings its big, furry paw, a photojournalist points out. And as the bear's paws grow, he looks down and it looks back at him like he really likes it. When I asked WWF what would happen afterwards if the man were to stand back and have a camera take his turn, it told me that the bear would shoot it from the angle of his rear, it pointed its paws at me, and it wanted to know if a camera would capture the paw from its back. A man in his late twenties, wearing a leather coat, has been wearing gloves all day, I told him, with his big paws still growing. He had just gone from running to getting out of his car in my arms. A video of his back is circulating online, and it looks like the bear's paw has become a familiar part of his personality for the people who follow him. When I suggested to WWF how to handle seeing a bear with its paws growing up in captivity, they told the team the best thing would be to start training it.
