There is a fair chance that the Senate has an unusual amount of energy. Republican Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona, who has supported allowing same-sex marriage in states that have legalized them, told MSNBC's Chris Hayes late Tuesday that he will not return to that bill after he meets with Republicans in mid-June on how to fund the government by the end of the November election. Asked if he thought the Senate should try to pass another version of the bill, Flake says that they'll see that it's still in the middle of the legislative process before proceeding. Still, Senate Republicans have not gone to battle with the White House over same-sex marriage this time around — a Republican member of the Senate's judiciary panel, Ron Wyden of Oregon, has called for more time.
